BACOLOD City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said on Sunday, January 8, the unsolved shooting incidents in the city are alarming. Since last year, several shooting incidents remained unsolved with no identification of the suspects. The recent incident was the killing of Changle Wu, a Chinese national who owns JDS Mindoro Enterprises Corporation, and security guard Jilbert Mayang, 40, on Locsin-Luzuriaga Streets in Barangay 13. Familiaran said that Bacolod is generally peaceful, but what’s alarming is the unsolved cases being handled by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO). “Policemen should intensify their intelligence network and form a group to concentrate on the unsolved crimes,” he said. “We should give justice to the families of the victims.” On Friday, the City Council also approved a resolution requesting the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region director to deploy additional personnel to the BCPO. The resolution was authored by Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairperson of committee on police matters. Tan said the number of police being deployed in Bacolod should not be lower than the required ratio of one policemen to 800 residents. BCPO has a total of 642 policemen. “Considering that Bacolod is the most populated city in the entire NIR as well as the seat of most of regional offices of the government, it is necessary that the present police force be increased or augmented to adequately address the varying concerns of the people such as, but not limited to, crime prevention, anti-drugs campaign, security, safety, intelligence, surveillance among others,” Tan said.
