MASSKARA FESTIVAL IN LONG BEACH, CA - Bacoleños and Filipinos from all over California trooped to the sprawling Recreation Park in Long Beach for the first ever MassKara Festival held outside of Bacolod City. Booths showcasing the best of Filipino cuisine and iconic Philippine products were on full display at the festival site, while a concert of Fil-Am artists provided entertainment for merrymakers. Among the performers are Jet Montelibano and the Union Band; rapper Ruby Ibarra; singers Garth Garcia and Nathan Fasching; martial artist Ramiro Estabilla; Masskara dancers from the Los Angeles Philippine Women’s Club; and actor Michael Keith of Disney Channel and Nickelodeon fame. The MassKara Festival in Long Beach with the theme, “We Bring the Fun of the Philippines to Long Beach" is a fitting commemoration that coincides with the city’s 80th charter anniversary. Vice-Mayor El Cid, Councilors Em Ang, Cindy Tan-Rojas, Caesar Distrito, Renecito Novero, Dindo Ramos, Bart Orola, City Administrator John Orola, Jean Ramos, Butchiek Gerasmo, Brenda C. Burdeos and Blyth Balbin, represented Bacolod in the festivities. Long Beach and Bacolod are sister cities. Photos and caption by Councilor Em Ang
